Criminal Defence and Immigration Lawyer
Hans “John” Kalina brings more than three decades of experience to his practice as a senior lawyer focusing on criminal and immigration law. He earned his law degree from the University of Western Ontario in 1990 and was called to the Ontario Bar in 1992. He later received accreditation from the University of Waterloo as a mediator and arbitrator.
Experience
Mr. Kalina served as a part-time prosecutor from 1998 to 2008, appearing in bail and trial courts. That experience gives him insight into both sides of a criminal prosecution. He has appeared before Ontario courts and tribunals, including the Court of Appeal for Ontario, Ontario Review Board, Ontario Parole Board and coroner’s inquests.
Professional Leadership
Mr. Kalina has lectured other lawyers about the immigration consequences of criminal charges and the expungement of criminal records. He has mentored students-at-law and newly called lawyers, served as an articling principal, and assisted Peel Region students with mock-trial programs.
